Campus Change Campaign - Off-Campus Jurisdiction for Drug Policies

Talking Points

  • Colleges should not punish students for off-campus behavior, and have no real jurisdiction to do so. Colleges should do their important job of educating students instead of looking for extra reasons to punish them.
  • Of course colleges have a responsibility to hold students accountable for their behavior on campus and at school-sponsored events, but they have no right to invade students’ lives beyond the boundaries of school-related activity.
  • How would administrators like it if students followed them home and monitored their off-duty behavior?
