The SSDP Voice: Summer 2007

SSDP Chapter Network Continues to Grow

SSDP would like to welcome and congratulate all of the fledgling chapters working hard to achieve official status on their campuses. With the school year complete, an impressive crop of new chapters is playing the waiting game until paperwork can be approved in the fall.

Our newest official chapter of SSDP is at Taft College, which has joined the ranks of some very active Southern California chapters, including those at UCLA, Cal State Fullerton, and San Diego State. Soon to join them in the fall of 2007 are Cal State Long Beach, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal Poly San Louis Obispo, and the University of California at Santa Barbara. With all of these new additions, SSDP is poised to have as strong a presence on the West coast as it does back east. There has even been discussion of the first West Coast Regional Conference in 2008.

Elsewhere in the country, SSDP chapters are popping up at an unprecedented rate. With more than 20 chapters pending approval, the 2007–2008 school year is shaping up to be a year of record growth for the organization! If you are a student at Kansas State, Mississippi State, University of Idaho, or Arizona State, contact SSDP’s national office for information on how to get involved with the newly approved chapters there.

During the summer it’s easy to forget about school, but don’t forget that outreach continues throughout the entire year. The summer is an opportunity to network with friends at other schools, talk with them about drug policies on their campuses, and recruit them to start new SSDP chapters. Anyone interested in starting an SSDP chapter can visit http://www.ssdp.org/chapters/start/ or email Outreach Director Jake Roland at jake@ssdp.org.
