Truman State University SSDP is a hip group that is located in Kirksville, MO. The chapter was founded in 2005 by Josh Kappel. The group started as a hybrid NORML/SSDP chapter and still remains so to this day.

The group successfully ran a student government ballot initiative to modify the counter productive parental notification policy. The initiative was a success, but was met with huge resistance by the Dean of Student Affairs. However, a compromise was reached, but due to the lack of bargaining power the compromise was not ideal.

In the long run though, the campaign was an effective guinea pig, in proving the ineffectiveness of student government ballot initiatives.
